Männerchor (men's choir)
This is an invitation to explore something new and broaden your life experience. We are the Männerchor, or men’s choir, of the Germania Gesang- und Sportverein. We rehearse and perform as a men’s choir alone, and also in concert with the women’s choir, or Damenchor. By our singing we attempt to nurture and preserve our rich German cultural heritage. Although some say that we are a “living musical museum”, we are far from being a relic. We are a vibrant group of guys of all ages and backgrounds who love to sing. Some are German immigrants and some are fourth and fifth generation Americans. Some read music, but many do not. Many speak German, but some do not. However, we all find great pleasure in hearing and singing the beautiful melodies and harmonies of the German songs of yesterday and today. And in it all, we enjoy camaraderie and “Gemütlichkeit” (loosely translated as coziness). We perform for a number of functions at our own clubhouse, at senior living facilities, with other similar singing societies and at district and national songfests. Although we sing mostly in German, we also sing in English. We rehearse every Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m., with much socializing before and after rehearsals. If you like to sing, we invite you drop in at 543 South Front Street on any Thursday evening and see what we’re all about. We will greet you with a warm welcome.
