Concert Tour News
Every few years the Germania organizes
a concert tour to some part of Europe. On the last tour, in 2006,
we visited parts of Germany, Austria and the Chech Republic. Now,
the Germania and the Swiss clubs of Columbus are pooling our talents
to tour, in 2011, Switzerland, southern Germany and parts of Austria.
The trip is planned for June 14 through June 28. The itinerary for the tour is pretty
well set. We fly to Zurich, Switzerland, visiting various places and
taking in a yodel fest. After five days in Switzerland we move on to
see the sights around the Bodensee (Lake Constance) and then into
Germany. Major towns and cities include Augsburg, Nurnberg and
Regensburg. In Austria it’s Salzburg. We spend some time in
Munich, where we visit our friends of the Pasing Liedertafel. All
along the way we will meet up with other local choruses, perform with
them and enjoy some of the local GEMÜTLICHKEIT. We’ll also sing
in some beautiful churches and maybe even a cathedral! And then we
fly home. The Germania tours are known to be super enjoyable events.
If you go on one you’ll definitely want to do it again. We see
the sights, we meet the people and we soak up the culture.
Plans for the tour began in October,
2009. We hope to have at least 30 singers and up to 20 non-singers
join us on the tour. You don’t have to be a singer to join the
tour, but you will need to hurry if you want to go. The cost of the
tour, not including air fare, is expected to be in the range of $1800
per person, at the present rate of exchange. We expect everyone to
make monthly deposits to the Germania Travel Fund. The first deposit
of $100 was due in January, 2010, and $150 per person deposits are
due each month from February, 2010 through February, 2011. The first
50 persons to keep to this schedule of deposits will be on the tour.
Others will be on a waiting list.
